Jacksonville Humane Society is a No-Kill, non-profit animal shelter. They receive their funding from grants on the national and local level from foundations such as the Petco Foundation and ASPCA. In 2007, the shelter was devastated by a fire. Fortunately, many of the animals were rescued by the fire department but the building was destroyed. Over the past ten years, they have been moving from building to building while fundraising the necessary money to establish a new permanent location. Finally, Jacksonville Humane Society has a new home on Beach Blvd, thanks to the help of community donations, the Campaign for the Compassionate Community, and the Build With Love campaign.
The new building has an education center and an onsite veterinary clinic. With the education center, people can learn information about any specific care needs of their new family member and have any of their questions answered by a staff member. The veterinary clinic not only treats the shelter animals, but offers low cost care to the public. The new location also features several individual kennel suites made to host dogs that may be more on the timid side and to showcase the chosen featured dogs. There are also large outdoor runs for dogs to play and exercise.
The Jacksonville Humane Society hosted a grand opening event on November 10 and November 11. During this event, there were plenty of activities for families to have fun such as tents with face painting and raffles, a bouncy house obstacle course, and even a food truck, Pita Boss. People could come into the new building and walk throughout the kennels, where pets were free to adopt in honor of the grand opening. The festivities will be continuing, with cats not only for 20$, but buy on get one free as well through November 30th. It is a heartwarming fact that the animals at this shelter are being adopted at an outstanding rate and that many of the kennels are empty as a result. To see all current adoptable animals and learn more information, visit the new Jacksonville Humane Society location or visit their website.

Crowley is a featured dog who enjoys his individual suite. Any passerby can see his happiness and his love of grabbing attention.
