Surrounded by her completed masterpieces, Sabrina Jennis furrows her brow as she gets to work on a blank canvas. The paint brush flows effortlessly, giving life to the canvas. After a long day, this is what Sabrina does to unwind.

According to Deane Alban, a health information researcher, art is beneficial in many ways. According to Alban's article, these benefits include stress relief, a boost in self esteem, and an increase in brain plasticity. For many people, including Sabrina,

art is used as an outlet for emotional expression.

"Throughout school I was always creating art. I participated in art events and placed very high at an event in high school." told Sabrina.

Along with using art as an outlet, Sabrina also participates in local events such as Art Walk. It is here that she can display her work in the bustling downtown streets of Jacksonville. Passersby come to this event to admire and purchase art from thousands of different local artists.

Art is a way for people to release their emotions, and it is a way for people to come together. Over the years, millions have admired the work of paintings such as the Mona Lisa. Art creates solidarity in times when it seems like all possibilities of unity are otherwise lost.
