Makani and the Tiki Mikis is a children's book created and illustrated by Kosta Gregory. The story holds a very valuable lesson that both children and adults alike can learn from: embrace what makes you unique.

The Tiki Mikis are ukulele-playing island creatures, and Makani is one of them. They all play the same song using the notes provided by the god of song, Lono. However, Makani could never get his tune to sound quite like what all of the other Tiki Mikis were playing. One day, music stopped flowing through the island. All of the Tiki Mikis panicked, except for Makani. He ventures on a journey to seek out Lono and discover why the music has stopped coursing through the Tiki Mikis' ukuleles. It is revealed that Lono has been out of ideas for notes. Makani, whose notes were always different, saves the day by giving Lono new ideas for music, thus allowing the Tiki Mikis to go back to their happy lifestyle of playing their ukuleles.

"The moral of the story is that it's okay to be different. Find your own voice and your own tune," said Kosta Gregory. "I was a little different as a kid and I just hope that some kid out there enjoys the visuals and the lesson,"

Gregory has been illustrating and animating for about four years. He has worked on other children's books such as Oh, the #Adulting You'll Do and Make a Wish For Me. Makini and the Tiki Mikis will be his first solo children's book. It is expected to be available for purchase this summer online with both Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
